Sweet seasonal orange with a dash of cardamom and a little cinnamon makes for some seriously next level french toast! Fresh + bright, the perfect brunch recipe for ringing in the New Year!
INGREDIENTS
1 orange
4 pieces of sourdough, 1in slice
4 eggs
1/3c milk
1/4t cinnamon
1/8t cardamom, ground
1/2t vanilla
Pinch of salt
1/2c maple syrup
INSTRUCTIONS
Whisk together eggs, milk, cinnamon, cardamom, vanilla, a small pinch of salt and the zest from the orange. Let the bread soak in the egg mixture for a minute then flip and soak for another minute. The last slice or two soak up every last bit with the bread, kinda like a sponge. Cook on medium in a skillet with butter until cooked through and golden brown, about 2-4 minutes on each side.
Section the orange and set aside then squeeze the remaining juice in a small pot. Add maple syrup to the pot and bring to a boil and immediately remove from the heat. Pour over french toast and top with orange segments.
ENJOY!
